Individual Graduation Plan Meeting
Dear Parents and Students,
It is time to start high school graduation planning, to set your steps accordingly in order to reach your goals. A good preparation before the meeting will help you, your child, and counselors do the planning more efficiently, and it will help taking wise decisions. Following steps will guide you to prepare for the meeting. Parents should complete all the steps prior to schedule a meeting with a counselor.
Step 1: Register to Naviance Family Connection
Naviance is a web-based tool to build a communication between counselors, parents and students. Students use Naviance Family Connection to connect Naviance system. We will use various features of Naviance during high school, but we will use specifically Course Planner tool in Naviance for graduation plan now. First, we need to see how to register and sign in Naviance Family Connection. Please watch the following tutorial, and register to Naviance.

Step 1: Register to Naviance Family Connection
Naviance is a web-based tool to build a communication between counselors, parents and students. Students use Naviance Family Connection to connect Naviance system. We will use various features of Naviance during high school, but we will use specifically Course Planner tool in Naviance for graduation plan now. First, we need to see how to register and sign in Naviance Family Connection. Please watch the following tutorial, and register to Naviance.
Note: If you haven’t
received registration code yet, please contact to your grade level counselor.
Step 2: Use Course Planner Tool
The following tutorial shows plan of study for upcoming ninth graders. It is explained under new graduation requirements (HB5). If you are already a high school student, you can take this tutorial as a reference to make your plan under current graduation requirements (Distinguished Achievement Plan and Recommended High School Plan). Please check your last year’s graduation plan, and do your planning based on that plan. (Soft copy of your last year’s graduation plan is placed documents. You can go to about me tab, then click documents link, and go to graduation plan document. )
Step 2: Use Course Planner Tool

Step 3: Submit your plan for approval
Make sure you completed your plan correctly. Please check the following items before submit for approval.
Step 4: Schedule a meeting with your counselor
After you finish your plan and submit for approval, you can schedule a meeting with your counselor. If you schedule a meeting prior to finishing your course planning in Naviance, your schedule will be canceled and you will get notification. Please watch the tutorial to see how you can use the Scheduleonce tool to schedule your meeting.
Make sure you completed your plan correctly. Please check the following items before submit for approval.
- Each year should have 8 credits in the plan.
- Don’t have duplicate courses in same or
different years.
- Make sure you place a course’s prerequisite
before that course. (Ex: Debate I before Debate II)
Step 4: Schedule a meeting with your counselor
After you finish your plan and submit for approval, you can schedule a meeting with your counselor. If you schedule a meeting prior to finishing your course planning in Naviance, your schedule will be canceled and you will get notification.
